No polls in April if accord eludes us: Dahal

KATHMANDU, NOV 17 -
UCPN (Maoist) Chairman Pushpa Kamal Dahal on Friday said major parties' failure to seek consensus within one or two weeks from now will lead the country to a "serious political mishap."
According to Dahal, election s during April-May next year will not be possible if consensus is not had at the earliest.
“Parties have a uniform view on all issues related to holding fresh polls, except for the leadership of the government,” Dahal said at a tea reception organised by his party. He further urged the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML to adopt flexibility.
“Talks are underway with top leaders of the Nepali Congress and the CPN-UML and I am confident that we will forge consensus soon,” said Dahal. He added that the parties must not stick to power sharing issues only.
Dahal said the 12-point understanding signed by the major parties in 2005 has laid out a clear framework for a new constitution. “I have not deviated from the main thrust of the 12-point understanding, I will also call other parties to respect the understanding,” he said.
