Special Court sets Rs 10m bail for Chakre Milan

KATHMANDU, JUN 12 - The Special Court has set Rs 10 million bail for Chakre Milan , who stands accused of amassing properties through legal means.

After conducting preliminary hearing on Wednesday, a special court bench led by Chairman Kedar Prasad Chalise and comprising members Mohan Rama Bhattarai and Bhupendra Rai set the bail amount for notorious gangster Gurung and Rs 200000 bail for his wife Indira Gurung. He is currently serving his jail term on charge of drug trafficking.
Gurung couple appeared for the court hearing at 10 this morning.

“He is already in jail so there is no need to send him to judicial custody. But he has not yet posted the bail amount as demanded by the court,” said Court Registrant Dhir Bahadur Chanda. Gurung’s wife, however, was released after she deposited the bail amount ordered by court.

On May 20, the Department of Money Laundering Investigation had filed separate cases against five gangsters including Gurung at the court on the charge of amassing on charges of accumulating unaccounted wealth.
According to the charge-sheet filed by the department, Milan had amassed Rs 70.8 million through illegal sources.

The Special Court on Monday sent Krishna Basnet, aka Parshuram, in judicial custody after he failed to deposit Rs 20 million bail set by the court.
